About The Wensleydale Hotel

Welcome to The Wensleydale Hotel – a characterful Grade II listed inn at the heart of Middleham - a historic market town shaped by horses, hills, and centuries of Yorkshire Life.

Originally an old coaching inn with neighbouring buildings that served as a hotel and grocery store, The Wensleydale Hotel has long been a hub of the community, providing a space of rest, warmth, and welcome. Today, we continue that tradition with a new sense of purpose, shaped by respect for its past and a passion for its future.

Cozy bedroom with floral curtains, a bed, an armchair, and a window letting in light
Warm restaurant interior with horse-themed wall art and tables set for dining
Cozy room with stone walls, a wood-burning stove, and seating area

Step through the traditional entrance into our cosy reception and bar, where a wood burning stove sits within an inglenook stone fireplace – a natural gathering place for guests and locals alike. Further in, you’ll find The Tack Room restaurant with unique interiors featuring antique riding paraphernalia, paying homage to Middleham’s rich racing heritage. Whether you’re stopping in for a pint or looking to celebrate a special occasion, it’s your new local.

Each bedroom is packed with character with original features such as fireplaces, oak beams, window seats, and shutters. Many rooms overlook the Market Square, with Middleham Castle dominating the skyline, while early risers may catch sight — and sound — of racehorses heading up to Middleham Moor for their morning exercise.

Under new stewardship, The Wensleydale Hotel enters its next chapter with warmth, and ambition – focused on offering memorable stays, genuine hospitality, and a place our guests are glad to return to. We look forward to welcoming you

Community

This hotel belongs to Middleham as much as it does to its guests. We value local suppliers, our community, and familiar faces, and we strive to be a welcoming space for both visitors and residents.
